Careful and detailed research of the period house and garden with a sensitivity to:

• Vegetation: indigenous and introduced, functional or ornamental; includes gardens, allees, orchards, individual specimens, heirloom plants.
  
  
• Landscape Structures: gazebos, arbors, and terraces.
  
  
• Hardscapes: patios, walkways, trails, and driveways.
  
  
• Site furnishings: benches, lights, fences, trellises, pots, urns, ornaments, etc.
  
  
• Water features: rills, ponds, fountains, and waterfalls.
